Process Research Workshop: Doing,Writing and Publishing Process Research
AOM Montreal, Canada
August 7, 2010
Part 1: 12:15-2:30 pm
Part 2: 2:30-4:15 pm

Overview

This workshop focuses on the particular opportunities and challenges of doing, writing and publishing high quality process research. Process research methods involve the study of dynamic research questions dealing with how change unfolds in individuals, groups, organizations, and programs. The workshop is designed to support a community of scholars across Academy divisions who want to share and become acquainted with methods for conducting process studies.

Part 1 of the workshop will feature an introduction to process epistemology by Tor Hernes, followed by the presentation of two empirical research articles recently published in Academy of Management Journal by Paula Jarzabkowski and Scott Sonenshein. Karen Golden-Biddle will then lead a discussion with the audience on the writing of these articles. The first part will conclude with an editors’ panel including Martha Feldman, Hari Tsoukas and Andrew Van de Ven to enable discussion of current opportunities for publishing process research.

In the Part 2 of the workshop, participants will discuss and receive feedback from faculty and other participants on short papers they submit describing their process research projects. The workshop concludes with an open discussion on approaches for building a community of process research scholars. Participants should register for parts 1 and 2 separately.
